The city of Valencia is a strategic place due to the wind conditions and for its particular orography. Valencia is considered one of the most visited cities by tourists in Spain, and all this has been thanks to have been selected by the American Cup association to celebrate the competition here as well as the National Queens Cup.
History
In 1851 members of the New York Yacht Club aboard the schooner America fought against 14 boats from the Royal Yacht Squadron of London. Since then on it’s been named America's Cup.
Always has been won by U.S. ships ‘til, in 1983 Australia II achieves to take away their title, after 132 years of American domination.
In the next edition (1986-1987) the Stars and Stripes Dennis Conner recover "the 100 Guineas Cup" to the United States until 1995 in the Black Magic of New Zealand snatches away once again the title to keep the Americans in his possession during 2 editions. Alinghi robbed the Black Magic in 2003 and elected (to carry the Swiss flag and not have sea) Valencia (Spain) as host city for the next edition in 2007.
Structure of the competition
The competition itself is divided into 2 parts: the Louis Vuitton Cup (now is looking for another sponsor) and the America's Cup itself.
The Louis Vuitton Cup is used to choose which boat will challenge the defender of the title. At Louis Vuitton, there are two types of racing, the racing fleet (most spectacular) and one against one. The outcome of those races, which also involved the defender as training, released on defiant.
America's Cup: it faced the defender of the title and the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup. The winner will win "the 100 Guineas Cup"
